"10 Little Weight Watchers"

10 little Weight Watchers joining in a line,

one hated vegetables, then there were nine…

9 little Weight Watchers say, "This is great."

One said "I don't have time to exercise,"

then there were eight…

8 little Weight Watchers say, "This is heaven."

One had a birthday, then there were seven…

7 little Weight Watchers, getting thin for kicks.

One said, "Programs and fun just don't mix,"

then there were six…

6 little Weight Watchers, see how they thrive.

One said, "Just once won't hurt,"

then there were five…

5 little Weight Watchers beating at a door.

One weighed and left each week,

then there were four…

4 little Weight Watchers from fat getting free.

One heard, "Dear you're getting too thin,"

then there were three…

3 little Weight Watchers see how they do.

One went on vacation, then there were two…

2 little Weight Watchers, life has just begun.

One got off the program, then there was one…

1 little weight watcher standing all alone,

the body's gotten little, how the pride has grown…

1 little Weight Watcher,

at goal she (he) looks divine…

We, each one of us, can be that one

and not the other nine!!!

Don't Quit

Don't Quit

When you've eaten too much and you can't write it down

And you feel like the biggest failure in town;

When you want to give up just because you gave in

And forget all about being healthy and thin;

So What! You went over your points a bit;

It's your next move that counts...So don't you quit!

It's a moment of truth, It's an attitude change;

It's learning the skills to get back in your range;

It's telling yourself "You've done great up till now;

You can take on this challenge and beat it somehow;

It's part of your journey toward reaching your goal;

You're still gonna make it, just stay in control.

To stumble and fall is not a disgrace

If you summon the will to get back in the race;

But, often the struggler's when losing their grip

Just throw in the towel and continues to slip

And learn too late when the damage is done

That the race wasn't over and they still could of won.

Life-style change can be awkward and slow

But facing each challenge will help you to grow;

Success is failure turned inside out

The silver tint in the cloud of doubt.

When you're pushing to the brink, just refuse to submit;

If you bite it you write it... But Don't you quit!

Sleep Apnea

Do you snore? Do you ever wake up tired? Are you sleepy during the day? If your answer is yes, then you may have sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a serious sleep disorder in which breathing will constantly start and stop throughout the night.

The most common signs and symptoms of sleep apnea are:

Loud snoring

Daytime sleepiness/fatigue

Awakenings with shortness of breath

Awakening with a sore throat or dry mouth

Someone observes you having episodes where it appears that you stop breathing

Headache in the mornings

Difficulty sleeping

If you have several of these symptoms you should see your doctor.

A few months ago I woke up with a headache most everyday and I was so tired I could barely put one foot in front of the other. I went to my regular doctor and she recommend I see a pulmonologist. He wanted me to have a sleep study. I had the study done on February 2, 2010. The study showed that I did have sleep apnea. I was fitted with a sleep apnea mask and given CPAP machine to go with it. Within a few days I could tell a big difference! I had a lot more energy and I wasn't sleepy during the day. I have had my machine for two months and it has made a world of difference.

NOTE:  Not sleeping enough will cause your metabolism to get messed up and it will affect your ability to lose weight.

One Pound of Fat

Hello, do you know me? If you don't you should. I'm a pound of fat, and I'm the happiest pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.

Want to know why? It's because no one ever wants to lose me; I'm Only One Pound, just a pound.

Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds or fifteen pounds, but never only one, so I just stick around and happily keep you fat. Then I add to myself ever so slyly so that you never seem to notice it, that is until I've grown to ten, twenty or even more pounds in weight. Yes, it's fun being Only One Pound of fat, left to do as I please.

So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying "Oh, I only lost one pound." ( as if that were such a terrible thing!) For you see, if you do this you'll encourage others to keep me around because they will think I'm not worth losing. And I love being around you - your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you. Happy Days!! After all, I'm Only One Pound of fat!!!

Mansion 5K - April 10, 2010

On April 10, 2010, the kids and I did the Mansion 5K at the Barnes Crossing Mall in Tupelo, MS.  The kids ran and I ran a little but I mostly walked.  Phil walked with me and was my support system or my drill sergent!  He kept me going even when I wanted to quit.  I was the last to finish and my time was 55:12.  To my surprise I won 3rd place in my age group.  This was my 3rd 5K and it was my best time so far.  I plan to do another 5K in May.

My Story

Hello! My name is Penny and I am 42 years old. I have been married to my best friend/soul mate Phillip for almost 22 years. We have three children(Nick 19, Emilee 16, and Ashley 13). We live in Northeast Mississippi. I stayed at home from 2000-2009 and homeschooled my kids. I went back to work on 9/14/09, but I still homeschool my girls.

I have not always been overweight. When I was growing up I could eat anything and everything and not gain an ounce. When I got married in 1988 my wedding dress was a size 3 and it had to be taken up. I weighed 125 lbs when I got pregnant with my first child. I gained about 50 or 60 lbs while pregnant with him. After he was born in 1991 I got back down to 125. I had my second child in 1993 and after she was born I got back down to 125 again. We thought we were only going to have two children! WRONG! God had another plan. I was on antibotics and birth control in the early part of 1996 and I got pregnant with our third child. I know you have always heard that antibotics and birth control pills don't mix. It is TRUE! After she was born it was harder to get the weight off. I stayed around 160-170 lbs.

Around 2004 I started the Atkins diet. I stayed on it for four months and lost about 40 lbs. Sounds great doesn't it. NOT! Once I got off of Atkins the weight I had lost came back and brought its friends, because I gained about 80 lbs.

I have tried Weight Watchers several times in the last few years and never stuck with it. I am so sick of how I look and feel. I have high blood pressure, fatigue, sleep apena, and depression.

I think my turning point was when my girls started running on our homeschool cross country team and competing in 5K's last year. It was so exciting to see them compete. I would try walking around the track while they were practicing and it was all I could do to make it around the track once or twice. I was out of breath and though I was gonna die.

On 10/24/09 the girls and my mom and dad were going to run in the Race for the Cure. I thought I would just walk the first lap and not do the 5K. Well when I got there I decided to do the 5K. Yes, I had went CRAZY. Here I am at 232 lbs and I think I can walk/run 3.1 miles. Well the gun went off and away we went. When we made the long lap around the mall I almost followed all the people who were just completing the first lap, but I kept going. I would run a little and walk a lot. I kept thinking of the pain people with cancer had to go through and even though I thought I was dying I was NOT! I finished the 5K in 59:19. I was so proud that I actually finished.

In December I finished my second 5k race in a little over an hour.

January 4, 2010 I started attending Weight Watcher meetings at work. I love it. I have lost 24 lbs, went down several bra sizes, and lost almost three pants sizes. I also joined the gym. I am so exicted and can't wait to get all this weight off. Now I love to walk and hope to run/walk another 5K in March or April.
